All your female waxing questions answered…

You are not the first person to apologize for asking all the questions before your first waxing appointment, and you won’t be the last!

We know and completely understand how daunting it can be booking that first wax.. but we are here to put those worries to rest before you even arrive at your appointment. We aim to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible and leave wondering why you were so worried in the first place. We want everyone that visits us for their first wax to be SO glad they booked and took the leap into the waxing world.

So, here are some of the most common questions asked…

“What wax do you use?”

We are very proud to use Waxperts in salon and as I am a Waxperts Educator, we can guarantee you the very best!

Waxperts is a premium brand with premium results designed to give customers a more comfortable wax. With the product range being Lavender based and suitable for the most sensitive of skin types, a Waxperts wax will ensure you leave with great results and feeling comfortable straight after.

Waxperts believe that they can put the treat back into the waxing treatment!

“How long does the hair need to be before an appointment?”

For the best waxing results, the hair needs to be at least 1 cm long, a grain of rice! If the hair is shorter than this, the wax may not be able to grasp onto the hair to successfully remove it.

“Can the hair be too long?”

Sometimes we may need to trim any longer hairs. But please do not worry over this! We would much rather you leave the hair so we can ensure it is long enough and if any needs trimming, we can sort that very quickly & easily.

“I am due on my period or just started my period, can I still have my intimate waxing?”

Yes! As long as you are comfortable wearing a tampon or menstrual cup, we are absolutely fine to complete your treatment for you. We see lots of ladies around their time of the month and we are trained to work around customers wearing a tampon 🙂

“Is the a minimum age for waxing?”

For customers under the age of 16, we must have a parent/guardian present throughout the full treatment of any facial, leg or under arm waxing and a parent/guardian must sign the consultation form prior to appointment. We cannot complete intimate waxing on anyone under the age of 16 years old and due to insurance purposes, may request proof of age before completing the treatment.

“Is waxing painful?”

Look, I’d love to say waxing is painless, but lets face it, we are removing hairs! With the Waxperts technique, training and products, we guarantee you your most comfortable waxing experience and we work quickly and effectively! If you are used to shaving or using hair removal creams, you may find your first wax a little more uncomfortable due to the hairs being coarse and strong. But, once you get into a waxing schedule, you will see the hair and pain quickly minimize and it will be so worth it!

“How long will my waxing last?”

We recommend re-booking within 2-3 weeks for facial and underarm waxing and within 4-6 weeks for legs or bikini waxing. This time will give you hair free time and then time for your regrowth to then be long enough for your next appointment!

“What is the difference between a Brazillian/Hollywood?”

We offer 3 different bikini waxing styles… an extended bikini, Brazillian or Hollywood.

An extended bikini wax– removes hair from the inner thigh and comes in further than the underwear line. This wax also removes a strip from the top of the bikini line to neaten the bikini wax up. This wax is perfect for hi-leg underwear.

Brazillian wax- Removes all bikini hair including the hair from the labia and bum and leaves a small “landing strip” above the pubic bone.

Hollywood wax- Removes ALL bikini hair including hair from the labia and the bum.

“How do you ensure your waxing treatments are hygienic?”

Very good question- we love it when customers take treatment hygiene just as serious as we do!

Firstly, we DO NOT DOUBLE DIP! This means, the once one end of the spatula has been used to apply wax to the body area we are treating, we do not dip that now contaminated spatula back into our wax pot! A no double dipping policy ensures that there will be zero risk of bacteria being transferred from our wax heater to customers. No one wants “dirty wax” applied to them!!

During your treatment we ensure gloves are worn throughout, we keep our products, beauty bed and wax pots clean and tidy and everything is cleaned between treatments.

“When am I best booking my waxing before my holiday?”

We advise to avoid sunbeds/ sunbathing for at least 24 hours after a waxing appointment to ensure the skin does not graze, lift or become sensitive. I always advise customers to ensure there is a couple of days between waxing and going on holiday to ensure the skin has calmed down and is not likely to react/ burn easily.

“Is there anything I need to do before my waxing appointment?”

Just make sure your hair growth is at least 1 cm, do not exfoliate your skin for at least 24 hours prior to your waxing, wear comfortable clothing for after your treatment and complete your consultation prior to arriving to salon.

“What is the aftercare?”

Your skin will be temporarily sensitive after waxing, therefore we advise to follow the following aftercare to reduce the risk of irritation…

Avoid for 24 hours after your wax:

  • Hot showers/ baths
  • Sunbeds/sun exposure
  • Heat treatments, including saunas and steam rooms
  • Tight restrictive clothing
  • Excessive perspiration e.g, gym, running, exercise classes
  • Applying any product on the wax areas e.g, fake tan, mouisturisers, make up or deodorants
  • Avoid touching/scratching the waxed area
  • Swimming/chlorinated water

“What should I do between wax appointments?”

Apart from DO NOT SHAVE? …

  • After 24 hours, use Waxperts Wonderpads daily to prevent ingrown hairs (you can grab yours at reception!)
  • Gently exfoliate the waxed area 2/3 times weekly
  • Use Waxperts Beautiful Body Oil daily to keep the skin smooth & nourished (also available in salon!)
  • Return and have your next wax appointment booked for 4- weeks time.

“Will I get ingrown hairs?”

An ingrown hair is a condition where hair curls back or grows sideways into the skin and is most common among people who have coarse or curly hair. Ingrown hairs are most common in areas where the skin is shaved or waxed but they can appear anywhere.

Shaving is the leading cause of ingrown hairs, followed by waxing and then tight clothing.

Waxperts Wonder Pads are the daily solution to prevent and treat ingrown hairs. Waxperts pads use salicylic acid, rosemary and panthenol to combat unsightly lumps and bumps.
