Your dry, dehydrated skin is at risk…

If your skin is looking a little ‘meh’ during the coldest winter months, it’s probably due to the combination of cold weather and warm central heating. This combination of atmospheres is moisture sapping, leading to skin dehydration. With the escaping moisture, you will likely be experiencing escaping oil, leading to skin dryness. Because of this combination, you may also experience higher colour (redness) than usual. This is tissue sensitivity. Often the result of a damaged skin barrier. The 3 (dehydration, dryness and sensitivity) often go hand-in-hand, but it’s an easy skincare fix with the correct prescription.

Why is a dry, dehydrated skin at risk of becoming sensitive?

On your skin’s surface, you have a protective barrier (we skin geeks know it as the hydrolipidic film, you may know it as your skin barrier). When this barrier becomes damaged through harsh weather conditions, your skin will become dry and dehydrated. Dryness is the loss of your skin’s oil and dehydration is the loss of your skin’s water. You will be able to feel the lost oil and water on your skin’s surface and this light fluid is seen as a sheen, throughout the day.

The loss of natural oil and water levels allows your skin to become vulnerable. This is because your skin is now dry and dehydrated. Your damaged skin barrier allows potential irritants into your skin. (Soap, water and pollution). Once sensitised, your skin will become less tolerant and redness appears. Your skin may sting or feel hot when confronted with elements that shouldn’t normally trigger irritation.

Skin Cleansing SOS

Depending on how experienced you are with your skincare regime, this blog will either remind you why skin cleansing is such in your twice daily routine. Or it will help you understand why cleansing is such a crucial step for everyone. Once you’ve read it, share the information with a friend or sibling. This could be the article which helps them achieve the skin of their dreams and ‘Better Skin for Life’.

Skin cleansing, why you must!
A crucial first step in any skincare routine. A step which is often missed or not carried out thoroughly.   Lack of proper skin cleansing is the main reason your regime fails to meet your expectations.

Lack of proper cleansing allows the opening to your hair follicles to become blocked with make-up, oil, dirt and bacteria. Something none of us want. Did you know a blackhead or spot is the result of a blocked hair follicle.

Are you suffering with Mask-ne?

I don’t know about you, but since wearing a mask whilst out in public and being back in the salon wearing a mask, my skin has taken a turn for the worse. Just when i’d got it the best it’s been using my Katherine Daniels routine!!

Mask-ne… also known as acne mechanica, a “man made” skin condition-  not acne in the true sense.

Wearing a face mask/covering creates an occlusive environment, the air underneath is humid and warm creating an ideal breeding ground for bacteria, fungus and virus as well as the mask causing friction on the skin which could make the skin red & inflamed. If you are susceptible to herpes simplex (cold sores) you may find you are also more prone to these whilst wearing masks/face coverings.

Covid-19 Salon Guidelines

We are still currently waiting for a re opening date from the government and hoping we will soon be given that date! Whilst were waiting, I have been super busy in the salon making the changes needed and at home catching up on the huge list of admin work I have to do as well!

When we re open, things will be a little different (hopefully not for long) and how the salon will be a little different too. But don’t worry, we want to keep you and our team safe but we’ve tried to do this without losing the relaxing atmosphere we love to create!

The photo above shows you the guidance that we will ask you to follow when visiting us.

Update on re opening appointments…

Re opening appointments!!…

As you have most likely seen, 4th July is the government date for the earliest we will be able to open. At the moment, this date is not for definite and is only a guideline and so until we are given a definite date that we can safely re open we will not be making appointments.

As much as we can’t wait to see you all and I’m working hard to prepare for reopening, I don’t want to start making appointments too early to then have to re contact you to move them if we are not allowed to open by 4th July.

Anyone that should have had an appointment during Lock down, you are already on our priority list to be contacted first as soon as we have an opening date. If you didn’t have an appointment and would like to be put on to our second list, please send us an email to littleluxury@live.com with your name, contact number and the treatments you are wanting to book and we will add you on!

Working away hard to make sure we are all set for when we can re open & I can’t wait to see you all and see the team back in! 🥰
